ALL SILK IS CREATED USING TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES FROM START TO FINISH.
THE RESULT? LUXURIOUS, LOW MAINTENANCE SILK THAT IS WASHABLE, WRINKLE RESISTANT, AND BODY-TEMPERATURE REGULATING.
From beginning to end, Tan Chau silk is sourced from the lush, local landscape. The silkworms graze off the rich Mulberry leaves and their delicate silk filaments are spun to create thread that is incredibly soft yet durable.
Afterwards, our artisan partners use small, traditional looms to carefully weave the threads into a sea of smooth silk. Our Midnight Silk, known in Vietnam as “Lanh My A,” also has a special weaving process that strengthens the silk's durability and leaves the silk smooth and receptive to the Mac Nua dye.
We infuse the raw silk with color through a dye process of 100 baths over three to four months. Our colors are all hand selected to ensure we only use botanical dyes found in the Mekong Delta that do not require any chemical or mineral to color binders. They ensure a completely natural dyeing process. Our signature black, Midnight Silk, is known across Vietnam for its elaborate dyeing process.
The silk is dyed midnight black using the Mac Nua fruit, which is extremely rare and has long been used as a natural antibiotic, to heal and protect the skin. Once picked, the fruit only lasts three days and is crushed in water to create a golden liquid which transforms overnight into an inky black when meeting the air and temperature. The Mac Nua fruit is the only natural, true black botanical dye in the world.
